I have the chart here to do the conversion but I'm having trouble finding what is the distance of the late pace fig, is the late fig distance from the second call to the finish or is it from the stretch call, ( 1F or 1/8 mile ) to the finish. if it's from the second call to the finish? Then the distance of the late fig would be different depending on the length of race. also horses travel slower at the end of a race the longer they run ,so let's say the late fig for a five furlong race should be run a lot faster than one run at 1 mile, the late fig for 5 furlong distance would be 5F - 4F = 1F and the mile would be 8F - 6F = 2F, so shouldn't the convergent number be different? I use excel to make my on number.

Just to be on the safe side - tomorrow I'll get confirmation from the guys at HDW...

But I'm pretty sure HDW F3 or late page figs are based on velocity in feet per second for the final 3/8ths of the race.

I emailed the guys at HDW a link to this thread and asked them for confirmation.

Here is their reply:

--quote:
"Late pace number is always final 3 furlongs, which starts right around where the final turn starts.

The late pace number is: what speed number would the horse receive if it ran the velocity it ran in the final 3 furlongs for the entire race.

Because horses often have slowed down considerably by the final 3 furlongs, the late pace number is often negative."
