I just created my first udm and it wouldn't turn on in the htlm report or the pps. I can query the udm using the data window, playlist file mode, but no tags in report or pps. Any ideas?

Q. At the risk of asking the obvious, is the UDM Active?

Unless the Active box is checked for the UDM on the Modify screen of the UDM Wizard - the UDM will be treated as inactive and won't be displayed on the HTML report.

Q. On the User System Definitions Screen is the Live Play Only box checked?

If so, the only output created during a Calc Races is that needed to drive report display inside the Live Play Module.

Q. Are you using odds based factors (such as Odds, RankOdds, BettorsToteProb, EBettorsToteProb, JPRToteProb, OR3, etc.) as part of the stored UDM definition?

If so that's your reason.

On race day, when you click the Calc Races button. the odds are not known by the Main Module/Profile Marker. Because the odds are not known, UDMs evaluated by the Profile Marker can never meet odds based factor constraints.

However, inside the Data Window, the odds are known and UDM odds based factor constraints can be evaluated.

If this is the case:

1. Remove all odds based factor constraints from the UDM.

2. Consider using the BettingInstructions field on the Modify screen of the UDM Wizard. Key in a short string of characters that effectively create a reminder that displays on race day reports.

Example: Suppose you want min odds of 6-1 on the starters selected by the UDM before you are willing to pull the trigger. Keying in something like "6-1" (without the quote characters) would get the job done.

If the above doesn't do the trick, call or email... We can go over the UDM definition from start to finish.

yes

Q. On the User System Definitions Screen is the Live Play Only box checked?

NO......the "Live Play Enable" box is.

Q. Are you using odds based factors (such as Odds, RankOdds, BettorsToteProb, EBettorsToteProb, JPRToteProb, OR3, etc.) as part of the stored UDM definition?

No..It is a very simple udm only using the one factor CFA, the minimum and maximum ranks have been changed to 1.

2. Consider using the BettingInstructions field on the Modify screen of the UDM Wizard. Key in a short string of characters that effectively create a reminder that displays on race day reports.

Used 6-1, recalculated race cards, still no udm or character string being posted in HTML reports. The out-of-the-box udms are being posted, if that means anything.

Do this:

1. Run the UDM through the Data Window so that the complete UDM definition is displayed in the header area of the Data Window's output.

2. From there, using the SHIFT-Down Arrow keys: highlight the entire Data Window output, and then use the CTRL-C key combination to copy the highlighted text to the Windows clipboard.

3. With the highlighted Data Window output containing the UDM definition copied to the Windows clipboard, open up a new email and paste the contents of the Windows clipboard into the message body of the email using the CTRL-V key combination.

4. Send the email to me at:
jeff @ jcapper . com
(remove the blank spaces first)

I'll be happy to have a look.

Would also check to see if impacted by any scratches. Have a few udms that are influenced by field size and have seen that.

Of course scratches influence bunch of other things too like the various rankings

Thanks for the advice, Ishmael, you are way ahead of me. At the present I am having a problem putting my udms in the right mode.

Here's what appears to have been the cause:

1. The new UDM was a playlist file mode UDM.

2. The "Operate JCapper in X Mode" setting on the User Sys Defs Screen was set to Sql Mode.

The program is designed to operate as follows:

When you hit the Calc Races button while the program is operating in Sql Mode, sql mode UDMs are the only UDMs that "fire."

Switch the setting to operate the program in playlist file mode, and when you next hit the Calc Races button, your Sql Mode UDMs won't "fire" but your playlist file UDMs will.

Q. What causes Sql Mode behavior for a UDM?

A. Sql Mode UDMs are those that have a sql expression persisted as part of the UDM definition.

Q. What causes playlist file mode behavior for a UDM?

A. Playlist file mode UDMs are those that do not have a sql expression persisted as part of the UDM definition.

I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense,
