I have a couple of problems. I have created 3 databases, one for June, July, and August. Up until now they seemed to be functioning OK in that I can use the data window to do studies on each database. Last night I inadvertantly screwed up the August database while I was appending it. I tried to use the Quick Index File Extractor but didn't know what I was doing. Now when I query the Playlist for this August file it shows not only "ArchivedRaceFiles" and "pL_Profile" in the Open a Playlist File Box but it shows a third line that says "pl_CPace_1." I rebuilt the Database from scratch overnight (took 6 or 7 hours) and everything worked OK today. I use Database Build Modes 4 and 5. Now tonight, I don't know what I did wrong, but my results for today, 8-21-2010 don't show up in the data window. I downloaded everything as always. Appended the database with Mode 5, and its as though the info isn't there, even though I see it in the file when I open August 2010. I plan to rebuild the whole thing tonight too but thought I'd ask the question tonight in case everything is still messed up tomorrow. Another thing: When I tell it to perform the append dastabase I get error messages "Error - 2147217897 Database already exists." Next: "Error 1157 Unable to compact and repair database file C:\JCapper\Exe\JCapper2.mdb" Next: "Compact and repair database file: C:\JCapper|exe\JCapper2.mdb FAILED" These error messages have always been there but haven't seemed to affect anything functionally. What's all this about? Had some nice winners today though with some of my new and old UDM's.

The pl_CPace_1 file is a quick index file containing starters that are CPace rank=1 only.

You can use the Data Window to query this file. Simply select this file, instead of a pl_profile.txt file when using the ALL or UDM buttons. The results you get back will be the starters in the file... which are CPace rank=1 only.

During each build database routine, the software will create an exception report text file that shows missing data and results files. The file name for each report file begins with the characters "Missing_XRD_" followed by the date the build database routine was run folowed by the characters ".txt"

Using Windows Explorer (or My Computer) navigate to the target folder and look for the most recent exception report file. Double click the file to pop it open in Notepad. Double check the dates for any missing results files.

If you are using HDW data, you can always use the "Get Both" and "Synch to Disc" buttons to get all missing files - followed by Auto-Pilot file build routines for both data files and charts files.

Afterwards, a rebuild from scratch should take care of things.

more to come...

During a compact and repair routine, a backup copy of the JCapper2.mdb file is created. The file name of the backup copy is:

JCapper2_Compacted.mdb

At the end of each compact and repair the backup file gets deleted.

I'll make an educated guess that a compact & repair was interrupted some time ago - leaving the back up file in place.

If a file named JCapper2_Compacted.mdb is found on the c:\JCapper\Exe folder at the point in time when the compact and repair is attempted, the routine will fail because an existing file by the same name is already there when the routine attempts to create the backup.

Best recovery path:

Look at the file contents of your c:\JCapper\Exe folder. I'm guessing you'll see a file there named JCapper2_Compacted.mdb.

If that's the case, rename it to:

JCapper2_Compacted_WhyMe.mdb which works for this purpose... the purpose being to just get the file out of the way.

You can delete it later once you know everything is back to normal.

After renaming the backup file to get it out of the way, run a compact and repair.

If you can do that without getting the error, then you're ok to delete the renamed JCapper2_Compacted_WhyMe.mdb file.

OK I found the "Compacted" file and renamed it. How do I run a "Compact and repair?" Is this the same as Build Database Append? I don't have to rebuild from scratch again do I? Thanks!
Can I now download charts from yesterday and today's data and hit build database append? Nevermind. I just did that. Everything was repaired and looks great now. Thanks again!
