All,
I find many informative discussions on how to use the facets of the JCapper program. However, when one looks for specific track suggestions by JCapper users, I find very little input from the busy handicappers on this board! I'm not suggesting anyone give away their trade secrets but perhaps some interaction regarding what works at a given track could be beneficial to all. This post is not meant to be critical but rather an opportunity for the sharing of sound advice!

Hi Max,

I am pretty simplistic in my usage but what I do is take note of what has been dominating lately in terms of JCapper factors at a track. I use the Key Report over a 14 day period for that.

More recently, I gauge track bias and may favor early or late numbers depending on any real bias I perceive. My favorite thing to do is notice a bias in say the first 4 races in a card, then include that pace factor strongly in my play the remainder of the card. I have gotten some nice long shots that way.

I am sure some others on here can give you some great ideas on how to use the data base in a track specific manner.

Jim

Jim,
Your comments are much appreciated! Very few people handicap in the same manner. Yet, one may try an idea someone else suggests, add it to his arsenal and evaluate it. Sometimes it will work with your handicapping ideas, other times you need to move on and go in a different direction within your selected framework or program. Doing so, keeps you mentally fresh and alert. IMHO, both are necessary attributes for success.

I don't focus on a small set of tracks, but rather I avoid those where I don't seem to have any success... SoCal for example. However, lately I'm having a much harder time seeing longterm consistency in how well a particular track is doing. Maybe this has something to do with switching over to HDW, or maybe there's more to it than that. For example, APX was death last year, but this year I'm seeing some excellent hits. TPX was always horrendous, but the results during the last meeting were spectacular. On the other hand, the Aqu inner was always great, but the last two years have been awful; evangeline was always good, but curently is terrible.

These all could be just statistical blips, but it's really hard to say... to be honest, I'm way less confident now in my assessments of which tracks I should play and which I should avoid.

I stick to major tracks, I'm more comfortable with them, I perceive them to be more formful. DMR, SAR, MTH, APX, WOX are my current ones. I switched over to being exclusively a Pick 4 bettor a few months ago so I put all my efforts into the late P4. Like Jim I look for short term trends at each track, I go back 6 weeks, 4 weeks, 2 weeks and 2 days to see if I can spot something, relying most on the last 2 weeks. Also you get a good chance to see how the track may be playing today before making your bet, and I don't have to be a tote board watcher which I had grown terminally bored with.

I have had the most success with Woodbine, which I should, as I put the most effort there given their field sizes, until lately, but long term SoCal is where I've done best, I still find the last six P6 races to often have very competitive fields.

All,
Some respected handicapper opinions are found in reading the replies. Track biases, recognition of difficult tracks, plus formful major tracks are topic discussions that have to help many of the JCappers on this board. These above mentioned topics are difficulties that many of us face every day in our handicapping. I recognize the contributors not only on this board but their helpful comments and sharing of information are also found on other racing venues as well.
Thanks for the willingness to share some relevant handicapping thoughts.

All,
How about some suggestions for the Saratoga meet???
I'll start it off with one that handicappers will shudder at. I had a friend, who several years ago was the handicapper for the Green Card. It was sold on track in New York and Saratoga. This gentlemen who has passed on, told me he never played any selections for the first two weeks. His reasoning- he preferred to handicap horses that had a race over the track.

So far, JCapper factors have been incredible at Saratoga, it's hard to know where to focus. I tend to like factors doing well r1-r3, but just sticking with r1 - in dirt sprints espraceshape E-E-E and E-E earlyconsensus r1 is 15/7 .46 1.90, other raceshapes fastslowfinal r1 is 22/10 .45 2.44. In dirt routes fastslowfinal r1 is 10/5 .50 1.5. In turf routes JPRClass is 32/14 .43 1.90. I am still using Bris data.

BTO,
Thanks for the relating some of the ideas that are working for you at the Spa. I realize that handicappers using JCapper often cherry pick selections from several tracks. However, there are some of us who approach handicapping using major tracks we are familiar with, rather than use all
tracks for handicapping purposes. Both methods have their positives and it's up to the individual which type he or she is more comfortable using. Generally
being successful plays a role in one's choice.
Again I thank you for the comment!
