Jeff, can UPR be used to help create Userfactors?

I tried to find an old thread that I thought talked about this but couldn't locate it. From what I recall, there is a hierarchy so UPR can be used in any Userfactors, UF 1 can be used in UF 2 thru UF 5 etc. However, I believe you can't go backwards (i.e, like UF 5 used to create UF 3).

Is my memory accurate or am I just another in a long line of senile horseplayers?

Thx, Dale

Dale, your memory is still intact.

Number crunching is performed in steps defined by a scheduled event sequence. Each event in the sequence executes in a predetermined order:

1. Standard JCapper Factors

2. Premier JCapper Factors

3. UserFactor1

4. UserFactor2

5. UserFactor3

6. UserFactor4

7. UserFactor5

8. UPR

9. PowerConsensus

10. HDW PScore

11. BettorsToteProb and E~BettorsToteProb

Factors created during earlier steps in the event sequence are available to be "grabbed" for use during later steps in the event sequence.

Example: You can "grab" UserFactor3 and use it as an input when creating UPR later in the event sequence.

However, any factor you "grab" must exist before you can use it.

If you try to grab a factor before it has been created in the event sequence, expect to either be prevented by the UPR Tools Interface from grabbing the factor in the first place - or expect the value of the factor at the time you grab it to be equal to zero because it hasn't been created yet.

No. The event sequence is hard coded into the program.

Changing the order (if you could change the order) might not get you what you are after.

Let's say for the sake of argument that you wanted to be able to use PowerConsensus or HDW PScore as inputs to create your UPR.

Keep in mind that these two factors are what they are in the first place because they are created by using factors created before them in the event sequence as inputs.

PowerConsensus is what it is because it is based (in part) on your UPR.

HDW PScore is what it is because it is based (in part) on both your UPR and your PowerConsensus.

So I had it backwards...Userfactors can be used to help create UPR but UPR cannot be used as a part of creating Userfactors.

A little background to explain why I asked...I'm doing a bit more indepth study of subpar favorites than the Vulnerable/Legitimate Favorite factor that's a part of the program. I was hoping to create a Userfactor rating as a measuring stick and my UPR Rank = 1 is a fairly strong indicator of favorite success so I was hoping to use it as a part of that rating.

I'll have to attack it from a different angle.

Thanks Jeff.

I think this would work: make a clone of your UPR and call it UF1. Then you can use it to create UF2 thru UF5.

Steve's idea will work... provided that the UPR isn't using UserFactors as inputs that will come later in the event sequence after the clone operation.

Sounds complicated. Let's try to clear it up.

You delete all of your Userfactor1 entries and then clone all the entries used to create the UPR and give each of them a Groupname of USERFACTOR1.

You now have a bunch of new entries for UserFactor1. At this point, your UserFactor1 and your UPR are likely identical.

Notice that I used the word likely.

If your UPR does not use UserFactors 1-5 as inputs then at this point your UPR and UserFactor1 will be identical... and Steve's suggestion will work for you.

However, what if your UPR uses UserFactor3 as one of its inputs?

That breaks the event sequence because now you are trying to "grab" Userfactor3 during creation of UserFactor1. If you try to do that, because the event sequence executes in a predetermined order: UserFactor3 will be 0 at the point in time that you "grab" it when creating UserFactor1.

See what I'm getting at?

All that said...

Cloning UPR and using it as one of your Userfactors DOES work provided you don't break the event chain.

Thanks to both of you for the assistance.
