Windows Vista unstable and shuts off |
busseb 3/9/2010 8:09:41 PM | HELP!!!
I'm running Vista on a Gateway computer and am having horrible problems.
When trying to rebuild databases, after 10-15 minutes, my computer just shuts off. There is no warning, it just powers off without going through shutdown.
One minute it's humming away building files and the next, it is off.
When restarting, it asks if I want to start in safe mode or regular.
The crashes seem to happen when the c: hard drive is pulling hard - when the system is cranking at max.
I know it's not JCapper causing the problem or a bunch of you would already have Jeff's ear.
Could it be processor? memory? power supply? or should I be looking to just upgrade to Windows 7? If none of the rest of you are having problems with Vista, why would my upgrading to Windows 7 change anything?
Is there a log somewhere showing why the system crashed?
So frustrated in ElPaso!!

You're not the only one with a Gateway machine experiencing this. Here are a handful of links from a Google search for the phrase "Gateway Computer Shuts Off"...

A thorough cleaning of the CPU lowered the running temperature enough to shutdown problem the go away.
Thankful it something so simple!!
