Message about JCapper.mdb UPR and min and max field size |
jeff 3/4/2010 4:44:47 PM | From a phone call earlier today:

Jeff,
I keep getting a message telling me that a new JCapper.mdb is available that will enable me to use min and max field size in my UPR.
What does this message mean and what should I do?
--end quote--
First, here is a screenshot of the message itself: http://www.jcapper.com/messageboard/avatars/getnewdatafieldsmsg.jpg
A while back I published a program update that enables JCapper users to specifiy min and max field size as part of the factor set for UPR and UserFactors. Defining min and max field size in UPR required that I add new data fields to the ImpactValues Table. The message is my way of telling you that these new fields are available for use... and that you have to do something in order to be able to use them.
To import the new fields... which will enable you to use min and max field size in UPR... and make the message go away:
1. Click System Settings
2. On the System Settings Interface, click ImpactValues Table Wizard.
3. On the ImpactValues Table Wizard (also known as UPR Tools) look for the button in the lower left screen area labeled "Import GroupNames" and give it a click.
Click through the warning messages about backing up your c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file... Hint: You should be backing up this file religiously...
4. Here is a link to a screenshot of the Import Groupnames Screen: http://www.jcapper.com/messageboard/avatars/getnewdatafields.jpg
Look for the button on the screenshot... (the one circled in lime green highlighter)... and give it a click.
The module will do it's thing... and afterwards you'll have access to the new data fields so that you can use min and max field size in your UPR... and best of all that persistent message will go away.
One more thing... Once you have the new data fields imported, the button itself goes away too. You only have to click it once.

Tom C 3/4/2010 11:49:49 PM | Jeff,
I am also getting a persistent message every time I start JCapper.
It says: Live Play Module - Algorithm Test - A new JCapper2.mdb file is available... Installing the new file will enable you to see more accurate numbers for Bettors ToteProb, etc. in the Live Play Module when using HDW data files.
How can I stop this since I am not going to use HDW data files?
Thanks, Tom C

Reinstall the latest program download... this time checking the box on the installer to make it give you a new Jcapper2.mdb" file.
I recommend that JCapper users get in the habit of checking this box each time a new program version is installed. Quite often with a new program version, features in that version require me to add new data fields to the JCapper2.mdb file. The delivery mechanism for that file is the checkbox on the installer.
This time, all the new features had to do with HDW data... Next time that might not be the case.
When you check the box on the installer you are telling the installer to give you a fresh blank current version of the file.
Without a current version of the file, sometimes JCapper doesn't have any other choice: It has to run with the new features disabled.
Whenever new features are disabled, JCapper will let you know... The messages are designed to tell you what you are missing and how to get it.
The c:\JCapper\Exe\JCapper2.mdb file contains all of the information related to your factor setup and customized report layout for SQL Mode - as well as your StarterHistory Table. It's a file that you should be backing up regularly.
So if you've spent time working in SQL Mode... It's a given that you'll want to import data from your old JCapper2.mdb file into the new one the installer just gave you.
You'll find a button that launches the JCapper2 Import Module on the User System Definitions Screen.
If you've never used the Import Module before, here's a link to a video: JCapper2.mdb Imports
I hope I've managed to explain that in a way that makes sense.

Tom C 3/5/2010 7:35:24 PM | Jeff,
Thanks for the solution. I re-installed and that message has gone away.
Now I am getting an error message every time I use the UDM Wizard. It says Error: -2147217887 Description: The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship.
If I click the OK boxes that follow, I can still use the Wizard, but the message comes back when I exit.
Do you want me to email you any files to check?
Thanks again,
Tom C

jeff 3/5/2010 10:42:16 PM | First best guess would be that you somehow have multiple UDMs with the same UDM name.
Shoot me a copy of your c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file and I will have a look.
If the file is more than 10mb in size zip it up before sending... or try a compact and repair database to get it under the 10 mb size limit.
If you can't get the file beneath the 10 mb size limit let me know and I'll get you ftp access to a folder on the JCapper server.
