On the Free Form Data Sheet, is the match on the
track AND date AND race AND horsename?

Tried to put in just the HorseName to see if it would
pick up the horse in an upcoming race and it didn't
print the info at the bottom of the race.

If the horse runs today but is fractious in the
paddock and runs poorly and I want to flag the horse
to make sure he doesn't do it next race, how do I do
it when I don't know the next race track or date or
race?

Can you just match on the horse's name since no two
horses can have the same name because of Jockey Club
rules? This means I have to keep my outdated notes
inactive or deleted, but that's a small price to pay
for the ability to flag a horse when he runs 4 weeks
from now.

Matching on the FreeForm Data Sheet is keyed off of Date, 3 Character Track Code, and Race Number.

Example:

You want to insert your own comments into the race summary for R8 tomorrow afternoon (9/23/2009) at Belmont Park:

Bring up the FreeForm Data Sheet and start making entries in a new row:

Active Field
"-1" (without the quotes) activates the current row

"0" (zero without the quotees) deactivates the current row

Track Field
"BEL" (without the quotes) Use the 3 character BRIS track code (also the 1st 3 characters of the data file name) so that the program can find races from the right track.

RaceDate Field
"9/23/2009" (without the quotes) - Key in the date of the race so that the interface can find races from the right date.

Race Field
"8" (without the quotes) key in the race number so that the interface can find the right race.

Horse Field
You can key in the horse's name if you want your comment to pertain to an individual horse... but understand use of this field is optional. Whatever you key into this field appears in the Race Summary... be it horse name, rider name, trainer name, other comment, etc.

Rating Field
You can key in numeric ratings from other data sources... Beyers, Sheets, other programs, etc. Again, use of this field is optional.

Comment Field
Key in any comment that you want. Use of this field is optional but anything that you do key into this field will appear in the race summary.

Settings - User Sys Defs Screen
Keep in mind that FreeForm Data Sheet entries are part of the Race Summary.

To display the Race Summary - go into the User Sys Defs Screen and...

Check The Box!

Ok. That's the FreeForm Data Sheet.

Now - If you spot something while the horse is in the paddock, during the post parade, during pre-race warm ups, or during the running of the race...

And you want to have JCapper flag that horse in some future (date not yet known) race...

Then the "treatment of choice" is to use WatchList UDMs...

Which are covered in another recent thread.

Thanks Jeff.

After a little "getting used to" I'm finding the freeform data sheet downright useful.
