JCapper on a netbook |
Tom C 7/13/2009 12:00:11 AM | Jeff,
Do you know of anyone using JCapper on one of the new netbooks? If so, is it successful?
If not, do you think that the processor would slow the program significantly?
Thanks for any info you can provide.

It is slower than the big box........

I wouldn't use it to build dbs and do research... that's noticeably slower than even my ancient desktop. But for running cards, it's fine, particularly if you take advantage of the new folder manager to segregate your cards. Even if your cards are all going off at the same time, you should still put them in 3 different locations in order to minimize recalc time if/when more late scratches come in.
The only real issue I've had is that the report viewer truncates the bottom of the report. I guess it's not equipped to handle the oddball aspect ratio. But if you open it in IE, you can view it just fine.

Thanks for the info. I was really thinking of buying the Samsung NC10.
Are you running 2gb of ram?
Also, does JCapper run slower on the battery versus being plugged in to an outlet?
Thanks,
Tom

ryesteve 7/14/2009 9:52:49 AM | Yes, I'm running 2gb of ram. FYI, even though the ram upgrade should be a no-brainer, the screw in the back is very small and very soft. I stripped it almost instantly, and had to take it to a tech to get it open.
I've never tried running it while plugged in. No outlets where I've used it. But yeah, if it throttles down to a power-saver mode while no battery, maybe it would run faster if plugged in.

It felt bullet proof and was very fast while flipping through "his" program. Neat little machine. Will probably be my next one. Small enough to fit in my cpap case. No need for another carry-on.
