Renaming a Groupname in ImpactValues Table Wizard |
busseb 7/6/2009 9:35:34 AM | Jeff =
Love the ability to create new groups in the ImpactValues Table Wizard.
Now that I have a good one created, how do I rename the whole thing (created only for DS) which is now named "wox_ds_test1" to UserFactor4 ?
I guess I have to rename my current UserFactor4 to something else first, but I have the same problem there. I need to keep it intact just in case I want to use it later.
And then, the next problem I will have is that after I create a new group for DR, I will need to overlay/append the UserFactor4 with the new group and with the group that I already have created for turf.
HELP!!!

Here's an excerpt from the 2nd post in the above thread (shown in blue text below) which hopefully gets your question answered...
What you need to do is change the GroupName field for each record in wox_ds_test1 from wox_ds_test1 to USERFACTOR4.
Use the IVTable Wizard. Select wox_ds_test1 from the GroupName drop down. Use the Next and Back buttons to cycle through all of the entries for that GroupName. Change the GroupName field for each record from wox_ds_test1 to USERFACTOR4 and hit Save. Then move on to the next record. At the end check your work by paging through the USERFACTOR4 records.
Before doing that, make a backup copy of your c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file just in case. Also, before you get started - delete any pre-existing entries for USERFACTOR4....
Required rules? What am I talking about?
JCapper follows a predefined event chain - or sequence of events - as it takes your IV Table entries from info sitting in a table to UserFactors, to UPR, to MLProb, to ToteProb, and finally to Expected Value in the Live Play Module.
That event chain includes:
1. Read IV Table entries.
2. Run the IV Table entries along with numeric value, gap, and rank info for each factor for each horse through algorithms that generate UserFactors and UPR.
3. Enforce rules along the way. Rules such as UserFactor1 can be used as a building block to arrive at UserFactor2. (But UserFactor2 can't be used as a building block to arrive at UserFacor1.) UserFactors 1 & 2 can be used as building blocks to arrive at UserFactor3. UserFactors 1, 2, & 3 can be used as building blocks to arrive at UserFactor4. UserFactors 1, 2, 3, and 4 can be used as building blocks to arrive at UserFactor5. UserFactor5 can be used as a building block to arrive at UPR.
The amount of free time that I have - almost none right now - pretty much prevents me from even thinking about rewriting the event chain. Not that I'd want to.
The event chain and building block rules are designed with a purpose in mind:
To allow each step along the way to result in a successively stronger factor... UserFactor2 can be made stronger than UserFactor1... UserFactor3 can be made stronger than UserFactors 1 and 2, etc.
The final result when all available building blocks are assembled together is UPR - which in theory can be/is supposed to be the strongest of all - which is why UPR was chosen to drive the odds line and not Userfactors.
However, if UserFactor1 happens to be really strong - say stronger than your UPR for whatever reason - there are things you can do at your end to accomplish what you are asking:
One suggestion (and perhaps the best option even though there are several different ways I can think of to accomplish the same thing) would be to use the IVTable Wizard (or Microsoft Access - or Open Office) to edit the GroupName fields in the ImpactValues Table so that you effectively make UserFactor1 your new current UPR.
The strategy would involve editing the GroupName for each of your USerFactor1 entries to a new GroupName to be used as your new UPR GroupName.
Example: You want your new GroupName to be JAN2009 so you bring up each entry currently used to generate UserFactor1 and change the GroupName from UserFactor1 to JAN2009.
When you are done, go into the System Definitions Screen, select JAN2009 as your new UPR GroupName, and hit the Save button.
And of course that frees up a slot and you could go about creating a new UserFactor1.
The only "gotcha" with something like this would be if your current UserFactor2, 3, 4 and 5 are using your current UserFactor1 as building blocks.
If that's the case you'd need to clone each UserFactor1 entry first - and then rename each clone from UserFactor1 to JAN2009.
And it almost goes without saying - but I'll say it anyway...
Make a backup of your c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file before you get started!
Hope I explained things in a way that makes sense and good luck.
