I have tried various ways, but can't seem to figure it out. I am sure there is an easy way...

How do I query ONLY First Time Starters in the data window?

How do I require a UDM to ONLY apply to First Time Starters in today's race?

In the UDM Wizard, select Starts (lifetime) from the factors drop down:

To make the UDM avoid 1st time starters:
Set minval = 1, maxval = 999
Check the Test Box and hit SAVE

To make the UDM require 1st time starters:
Set minval = 0, maxval = 0
Check the Test Box and hit SAVE

A UDM like the above designed to return FTS only would look like this:

Alternatively...

You could use the following Preset Filters:

To avoid 1st time starters:
LT0 avoid lifeTimeStarts = 0

To require 1st time starters:
LT1+ avoid lifeTimeStarts >=1
