Hey guys,

I've figured out how to run a CXN report. What I can't seem to figure out is how to filter it by track or time period.

I am referring to "Jeff's Track Report". Not filtering it through the DB.

Is it possible?

Thanks,

Doug

It's easy. To run a Jeff's Track Profile Report for specific track-surface-distance categories:

1. In the Data Window click MENU and select Exports and Jeff's Track Profile Export Clear First. This will clear the table and toggle a track profile export "on" for the next Data Window query that you run.

2. Then run an ALL button Data Window query. Data for every horse returned by the query will be summarized in the Exports2 table. When your Data Window query is done the needed data will be sitting in the table.

3. In the Data Window, click MENU and then select Exports and Jeff's Track Profile Report Generator. This will launch the Report Generator.

4. In the Report Generator, use the drop downs to select Track, Surface, Distance, Track Condition, and the number of days back to include. Note: optionally you can filter for such things ahead of time by using the Data Window's Create new Quick Index File option - where you first create a Quick Index file containing just the types of races you want to look at (track, distance, surface, class descriptor, dates, etc.) and run the query driving the export off the quick index file instead of a playlist file. You can also do the same thing by creating a UDM first where the UDM has settings for track code, surface, distance, etc. and then run the UDM against a larger database to drive the query. Remember: it's always the query driving the export that determines what gets written to the table during the export.

Once you have made selections for track, surface, distance, etc. hit the Generate Report button. Click ok at the message telling you that the report has been generated.

5. Finally, click the View Report button to view the report. Double click the report's title bar to maximize the report. Each race included in the report will be listed separately along with a summary section at the bottom.

With some experience a quick glance at the summary section can tell you if the track-surface-distance category you are looking at is speed favoring, speed tiring, or neutral.

Hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.

Thanks Jeff,

I was at work typing the original question. I was actually referring to the Jockey and Trainer reports and not the CXN report. Is the process the same? It seems I get every J or T in the DB when I run the reports.

Sorry for the confusion,

Thanks!

Actually CXN stands for connections... which would be riders, trainers, and owners.

The instructions that I posted earlier are how to run the Track Profile Report.

To run any of the CXN Reports you need to run a CXN Export first. If you want to limit the export and subsequent report(s) to specific track(s), distances, race dates, etc. you have to do it ahead of time. Using the Data Window's Create New Quick Index File menu option would be the way to go.

Let's say for the sake of argument you have a quarterly database file containing data for 15-20 tracks. But you only want to run the CXN Export and Reports for two tracks: AQU-GPX. You'd want to create a new quick index file first that only contained data from AQU-GPX.

1. In the Data Window, click MENU, select EXPORTS, and then select Quick Index File Create New. Click Yes at the confirm prompt and key the file name you want to use for your new file into the dialog box that appears. The initial file name in the dialog box will be "pl_profile.txt" - Make sure you change the file name to something else. Something like "pl_quickFile.txt" will work just fine for this. After changing the file name hit the open button on the dialog box. The dialogue box will close and you'll see text across along the Data Window's title bar (it's at the very top of the Data Window) telling you that the next Data Window query that you run will drive creation of a new quick index file.

Rules for this... IMPORTANT: Keep the first three characters of the new file name at "pl_" and leave the ".txt" file extension intact. DO NOT use pl_profile.txt as the file name for your new quick index file. You run the risk of deleting your existing file and you'll have to rebuild your database from scratch!

The next Data Window query that you run will drive the creation of your new quick index file. There are two ways to run a Data Window query that returns only starters having raced at a specific track: 1. Create a UDM and run the UDM through the Data Window. 2. Use the Track Selection drop down and key in your track codes (AQU-GPX) when prompted after hitting the ALL button.

2. Run a Data Window query for just AQU-GPX. Change the Track Selection drop down from "1 All Tracks" to "2 Select Track" and hit the ALL button. Key "AQU-GPX" (without the quote characters) into the textbox when prompted for track codes. When the select playlist file dialog box comes up go with the default file name "pl_profile.txt" by hitting the open button.

When the query is finished you will have a new quick index file named "pl_quickFile.txt" sitting on the target folder. This file will only contain starters from AQU-GPX. Note that you could have used a UDM or any of the Data Window's drop down settings to make this file contain exactly those starters that you want your CXN Report to be based on.

3. Run the CXN Export. In the Data Window, click MENU, Exports, and CXN Export. This will launch the CXN Export Module.

4. In the CXN Export Module click the Clear CXNSummary Table button. This clears any old export data from the table.

5. navigate to your target folder if necessary, check the boxes for riders and trainers, and hit the RUN EXPORT button. Use the calendar control to select the appropriate trend baseline date (this affects data flowing to the 45, 30, 15, and 10 day trend columns) and when the select file dialog box comes up use it to select the new quick index file named "pl_quickFile.txt" that you created in step 1 above.

Depending on file size, the export will take several minutes to run.

Once the export is complete then click the Report Generator button to launch the Report Generator.

Any CXN Reports you run from now until you clear the table and run a new export will be based on/limited to starters found in the quick index file you ran the export on... in this case the new file named "pl_quickFile.txt" containing starters for AQU-GPX.

That's pretty much it! After you do it a few times it becomes second nature.

Hope I've explained it in a way that makes sense.
