UDM problem |
ArlJim78 1/4/2009 12:16:33 AM | I have just discovered that I have a few UDM's that are active, but never show up on the HTML Report. They are showing up in the Data Window after the fact however.
For example, when I run the data window for todays races, its shows me that I should have had a UDM horse in the ninth today at Aqu. However that horse wasn't marked on the report.
I've made hundreds of UDM's, and this is the first time I've noticed this. And no, the Hide From Text Report button is not checked.
What am I missing? anyone ever come across this? thanks in advance Jim

This is probably a bad guess, but when you calculated races for your HTML report did you have the scratched horses in the race input?
Reason I ask, is in the data window the scratches certainly are in place from the results needed to place it in the database.
Thus if you didn't have the scratches loaded when you calculated the race, it is possible a ranking of some factor didn't meet the requirements of your Udm.
Just guessing,
Bill

ArlJim78 1/4/2009 1:38:34 AM | thanks Bill, but yes all scratches were accounted for. I made sure to double check that.
I'm puzzled because I have some UDM's that I never see on the report, and others that appear on the report just not nearly as often as they appear in the data window.
I guess I'll go through them factor by factor and try to isolate the problem.
thanks again.

If you email me a copy of the following I'll have a look:
1. The following file: c:\2004\JCapper.mdb
2. A cut & paste of the Data Window output showing individual plays for the UDM - so that we can id a specific race card where the UDM has flagged a horse showing up in the Data Window but not on the HTML Report.
3. Copies of the .DRF/.PCS and .XRD files for at least one of the specific race card files where this is happening. Just in case it's a card/track/date I don't have.
Email those to me and I'll have a look.

ArlJim78 1/5/2009 1:38:39 PM | Jeff,
I did some investigation on this issue last night, and have found a work around for the problem. I still don't understand what is going on, but I'll relate what I found and maybe you will have something to add.
The problem of the UDM's not appearing on the HTML report appears to have nothing to do with the content of the UDM, but everything to do with the name of the UDM.
By cloning/renaming these UDM's I am now able to see them on the HTML report.
What I don't understand is why some names do not work. Maybe there are some UDM naming criteria that I'm not aware of.
While doing this debugging exercise I came across something interesting that may shed some light on this, although to me it makes no sense. For example: I have a UDM named AGE that was not showing up on the HTML report. I created a dummy UDM named AGE2 with no filters so that it flagged every horse. Once I created the AGE2 UDM, the AGE horses also showed up on the HTML report in the correct place. As soon as I deleted AGE2, the AGE horses were no longer flagged. In fact I was also able to force the other problematic UDM's to appear on the report by creating another UDM with the same name but with a number on the end of it.

ryesteve 1/5/2009 2:18:38 PM | What happens if you just give the "AGE" udm a longer name? I vaguely remember a discussion on the old board that had to do with short UDM names causing problems.

ArlJim78 1/5/2009 2:36:15 PM | Steve,
At first, I thought that the issue was related to the name being too short, and maybe it is as all of the renamed UDM's that are working have longer names.
But then how do I explain the UDM that I have called simply "PMI" that always works normally?
Also, I found other UDM's with this problem that had longer names, so that leads me to believe its not the length of the name.
Another odd thing I found is that all of the UDM's that I found that were not showing up on the HTML report were adjacent in the profile table, and they all started with the letters "B" or "C". It was only a certain section of the the UDM's in my profile table had the problem.
there is something I'm missing that is related to the name, I just can't put my finger on it yet.

jeff 1/5/2009 3:05:08 PM | I'm able to create UDMs with short names - including one named "AGE" without the quote characters - at my end and have them flag horses on my HTML Report. So there has to be something else going on.
Like I said if you shoot me a copy of your c:\2004\JCapper.mdb file I'd be happy to have a look.
