| busseb 12/10/2008 2:26:56 PM | I've been messing with the 3yo Preset Filter. It flags horses that are 4 and older if there is a 3 yo horse in the race. Out of laziness, I just started using the horses filtered out option on the data screen and what do you know, I found some good factors that predeict 3 yo's winning against their elders and at premium prices. The problem is, I could never find the filter to flag 3 yo horses in 3 and older races without mucking up my data with 3 yo's in 3yo only races. What I need is the horses filtered out of the 3yo filter. Is there such a filter out there or how can I accomplish the same thing? Any suggestions? ElPaso

| jeff 12/10/2008 5:52:04 PM | In the UDM Wizard... Age of Horse (Years) minval: 3 maxval: 3 this will have your UDM flagging 3 year olds only mingap: -1 maxgap: 999 this will have your UDM flagging 3 year olds only when they are facing older in the same race. -jp .

| ryesteve 12/11/2008 9:49:50 AM | I'd thought of "gap" as a solution, but in general, if two (or more) horses are top-ranked, isn't their gap 0? I'd have thought that using a gapmin of -1 would only lead you to horses that were the only 3yo in their race.

When considering Age of Horse (Years) the oldest horse in the race are always ranked the highest. Younger horses are ranked the lowest. If a race is made up of two 5 yr olds, four 4 yr olds, and two 3 yr olds, a chart looking at the race in terms of Age of Horse Gap would look something like this: 5 yr olds... gap = 0 4 yr olds... gap = -1 3 yr olds... gap = -2 So, thinking through Brian's question and my response above a little more clearly - to create a UDM that flags 3 yr olds facing older - Post #2 in this thread should be revised as follows: In the UDM Wizard... Age of Horse (Years) minval: 3 maxval: 3 this will have your UDM flagging 3 year olds only mingap: -999 maxgap: -1 THIS will have your UDM flagging 3 year olds only when they are facing older in the same race. -jp .
