UPR Question |
jeff 10/19/2008 1:10:44 PM | --quote:"Hi Jeff,
I have multiple UPR's. When I go to the data window and breakout by UPR RANK, the numbers never change. I mean I switch and save them on the systems settings page, but they all are the same. Now, when I switch them and calculate races, the UPR on the report does in fact show a change in the rank. I want to compare the UPR's in the data window to see if my numbers have improved from one UPR to the next. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks, T" --end quote
Each time that you run a Build Database from Scratch the program will create a new pl_profile.txt file. The pl_profile.txt file created by a build database will contain whatever UPR numbers were generated by the UPR GroupName that you have selected and saved on the System Definitions Screen.
When you query a pl_profile.txt file, the Data Window is getting its UPR numbers from that file. It isn't generating UPR numbers of its own.
So what you want to do is run a pl_profile.txt file through the Data Window and then save your Data Window output.... copy and paste your Data Window output (UPR by rank, gap, numeric value, etc) onto the Windows ClipBoard and then into a text editor such as Notepad - and use NotePad to save the info in the form of a text file that you can look at later.
Then after editing your UPR, rebuild that database from scratch, and use the Data Window to look at your new UPR numbers. At this point you can compare them to the UPR numbers saved in your text file... and you'll know if you improved them or not.
Another way to save UPR numbers would be to simply rename your pl_profile.txt file to something like pl_profile_10182008.txt (the numbers bear todays date) before running a build database from scratch. The build database from scratch will create a new pl_profile.txt file while leaving the renamed file intact. After rebuilding from scratch you can use the Data Window to query both files... and see which one has the better UPR numbers.
Hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.

The second question is can the Same Factor, such a QSPEEDPOINTS , be used mutiple times in the same UPR ?
For example lets say the Impact values are different for Dirt and Turf. In the same UPR can the QSPEEDPOINTS be used one for Turf the other for Dirt ?
Another scenario for QSPEEDPOINTS would be the difference in impact values for various Distances (Sprints/Routes).
I would think this can be done but want to make sure. Would save a great deal of time re-building databases if this can be done. Of course the Big Assumption is that the criteria is different so that the factor isn't counted 2X in the UPR.
