Shouldn't the Factor drop down be available every time you open the UDM Wizard and choose to adjust an existing UDM? It doesn't seem to be that way for me.

Thanks,

"Shouldn't the Factor drop down be available every time you open the UDM Wizard and choose to adjust an existing UDM?"

For Playlist File Mode UDMs? Yes.

For SQL Mode UDMs? Absolutely not!

Bullet Points for UDM Basics:

• If you pull up a UDM in the UDM Wizard's Modify UDM Screen and the factors drop down is disabled: That's the Interface's way of telling you the UDM is a SQL UDM.

• The Factors Drop Down on the Modify UDM Screen is ALWAYS DISABLED when the current UDM is a SQL Mode UDM.

(Why? Because you never need to use it for a SQL Mode UDM. For a SQL UDM: The ENTIRE UDM Definition is controlled by the SQL Expression which is accessed with the SQL button.)

• The Factors Drop Down on the Modify UDM Screen is ALWAYS ENABLED when the current UDM is a Playlist File Mode UDM.

(Why? Because you need it to be active for a Playlist File Mode UDM. The factors drop down is the way you select factors to be added to or removed from the UDM Definition of a Playlist File Mode UDM.)

• A UDM can be a Playlist File Mode UDM or it can be a SQL Mode UDM. (A UDM cannot be both.)

Q. What controls whether or not a UDM is a SQL Mode UDM or a Playlist File Mode UDM?

• As soon as you add (even one line) of valid SQL code to a UDM Definition: That UDM becomes a SQL UDM. The SQL Expression becomes the UDM Definition and any Playlist File Mode factor constraints (although they remain intact) are ignored when the Calc Races button is clicked.

• Remove the last remaining piece of SQL code from a UDM Definition and the UDM becomes (or reverts back to) a Playlist File UDM.

• Operate the program in SQL Mode and only SQL Mode UDMs "fire" when the Calc Races button is clicked.

• Operate the program in Playlist File Mode and only Playlist File Mode UDMs "fire" when the Calc Races button is clicked.

Thanks Jeff, that makes sense. My follow up question then is how do I measure FASTSLOWPace for my SQL UDM?

Thanks,

If you have FastSlowPace in your SQL Factor Setup (suppose for the sake of argument it's sitting in slot number F06 in your own SQL factor setup) then you would select SQL F06 Rank as your breakout factor when you run a UDM through the Data Window.

And you would add something like the following to a SQL UDM Definition to make the UDM "grab" FastSlowPace when the Calc Races button is clicked:

AND RANKF06 = 1

FYI, SQL Factor Setup is something that can be customized by the user. (I used F06 for FastSlowPace in my post because that's the slot number where FastSlowPace resides in my own SQL Factor Setup.)

For more info about customizing your SQL Factor Setup - here's a link that will get you a 4 part web tutorial:
