Just switched to HDW data, but can't find the archive single race files button in the HDW File Manager. Saw it on an older video. Any help?

Background Info:

About a year and a half ago I redid the .JCP and .XRD File Build routines. My objective was to make them easier to run (less demanding from a technical standpoint.)

A big part of that change involved simplifying the User Interface by removing options I didn't see as absolutely essential.

Two things (off the top of my head) that were removed:

1. The ability to check or not check the auto pilot box.

2. The ability to archive or not archive individual race files.

Now, on to your specific question...

After running a .JCP file build routine under the current info model the individual race files are left intact on the folder where the build routine was run.

Q. After .JCP files have been built, does JCapper use the individual race files in any way?

A. No.

Q. Is there any harm in leaving individual race files in the same
folder where .JCP files were built?

A. No. At least not that I can see from an operating JCapper perspective. (That's another way of saying that leaving the files there doesn't impact JCapper program operation in any way - at least not on any of my machines.)

Q. Is there any reason to move individual race files off of the folder where .JCP files were built to another folder? (Or an archive folder?)

A. That depends on you.

After .JCP files are built the individual race files are not needed by JCapper. (Meaning that you can delete them if you want - while knowing that you could recreate on demand at any time simply by rerunning a .JCP file build on the same folder.)

This screenshot shows my 2013 Q2 data folder.

Note that in the above screenshot I am viewing details for that folder and have clicked the Type column to sort the files in that folder by type or file extension.

Note that individual race files are readily identifiable by the presence of the "j" character (without the quotes) immediately followed by the numeric characters for race number.

Using this schema, the characters "j01" (again without the quotes) would be individual race files for race 1. The characters "j02" (again without the quotes) would be individual race files for race 2... The characters "j03" (again without the quotes) would be individual race files for race 3... And the characters "j04" (again without the quotes) would be individual race files for race 4, etc. etc.

If you would prefer to move individual race files to a different folder, you can do so manually using the following steps:

1. Launch Windows Explorer (right clicking the Windows START button and selecting Explore is one way of doing that.)

2. Navigate to the appropriate data folder.

3. If you are not already viewing details for that data folder, in the right side Windows Explorer pane for that folder - right click not on a file but in the while space - and select VIEW. Then select DETAILS.

4. Once you are viewing details for that folder, click the TYPE column header to sort files on that folder by type - or file extension.

5. Click the first file to highlight it - and then use the Shift-Down Arrow - or Shift Page Down keyboard combination to highlight a large group of files. (Note that you can ctrl-click individual files to highlight them and ctrl-click individual highlighted files to un-highlight them.

6. Right click a highlighted group of files and select CUT. (This will copy the highlighted group of files to your Windows Clipboard.)

7. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder where you want to move the files to. Click inside of the right hand side pane for that folder. Once inside the pane for that folder, right click (not on a file but in the white space) and select PASTE.

Windows Explorer will move the highlighted group of files from the first folder to the second folder - immediately followed by emptying the Windows Clipboard.

8. Repeat as needed.
