For benefit of anyone who might find this thread at some future date...

JCapper Calendar Control - Basic Operating Instructions:

JCapper Calendar Control

Default Month and Year
As you pointed out, when it is first launched, the Calendar Control defaults to the current month.

Switching to a month or year other than the default
Note that there are two sets of arrow buttons just above the calendar layout:

1. The inner set of arrow buttons are labeled "<" and ">". Click the "<" button to move the calendar back in time one month. Click the ">" button to move the calendar forward in time one month.

2. The outer set of arrow buttons are labeled "<<" and ">>". Click the "<<" button to move the calendar back in time one year. Click the ">>" button to move the calendar forward in time one year.

After using the arrow buttons to move the calendar to the desired month and year, click the desired date on the calendar layout to select it. (Note: The above screenshot shows Jan 05, 2013 as the selected date.)

After selecting the desired date on the calendar layout click the Apply button.

That's it!
