3:15:17 PM | Bris includes the following fields in the DRF Single Format Data File:
1264 BRIS Dirt Pedigree Rating CHARACTER XXXX 4 eg. "115*"
1265 BRIS Mud Pedigree Rating CHARACTER XXXX 4
1266 BRIS Turf Pedigree Rating CHARACTER XXXX 4
1267 BRIS Dist Pedigree Rating CHARACTER XXXX
A while back I did some research and of these my research showed that the distance rating could be a slight roi booster while the others were mostly overbet. As a result the rating in the program is the distance rating which I've found useful in certain situations.
I had wanted to create an algorithm combining all of them into a JCapper Pedigree Rating. But because they are mostly overbet I had to abandon that idea in favor of bigger and better things.

4:29:57 PM | Try using the ped rating with top 3 jpr at belmont...top 3 ped with top 3 jpr.........for some reason it does ok at certain tracks and not at others...........lots of short price horses though

7:44:38 AM | A little off-topic, but this thread reminded me to ask for a favor: The TSN files don't contain these pedigree ratings. Can someone take a look at the distance pedigree rating for Royal Lord (last raced on 6/15 at Belmont) and give me some context as to what this number suggests his ability at 1 1/4 might be? Thanks!

Personally, I pay attention to this on turf and longer races. I use it by looking for PED high numbers and breaks in conjunction with my UPR that may be out place in terms of the betting public. As you know it finished (1, 1A, and 7).

12:29:30 PM | Thanks John... the number looks like it's on the low side, as I suspected. Can you (or anyone else) run a query that would give me starts, wins, 2nds and 3rds for horses with a 105 distance pedigree rating trying a distance past 9 furlongs?
