A couple of ? I followed the steps to generate a report but all I get is 0 races. I even built a new data file with just belmont to see if that worked-still no races. What am I missing? Also what is the John W report generator? I don't see where it's been discussed. Last ? before the last couple of updates whenever I downloaded data files they always unzipped automatically, now I have to do this manually. There used to be a box that said something like unzip automatically, that box is no longer there. Did I screw something up or miss an update? Any help would be appreciated. thanks rick by the way I did install 6-17 update

Rich, zero races found can result from three things:

1. You have not performed the two steps that cause the Data Window to write data to the export table. As a result, there is no data sitting in the export table when you try to run a report.

2. It is also possible to make a selection in the Report Generator that guarantees 0 races found... such as using the drop downs to select 7.5f on the Turf at BEL where they don't run such a distance on their turf course. I suggest selecting a track and *ALL for surface, distance, track condition, and 180 days for date restriction and generating a report. If you can run a report doing that, it eliminates cause #1 above as the problem.

3. Now that I think about it, there's a 3rd possible cause for 0 races found: Your Export was performed on an older database - one where all races are more than 180 days old. I need to add a 999 days back in time selection to the Date Restriction drop down on the Report Generator to handle this. Try running an export and a report on a more current database, if you can do that, it pretty much tells you that 0 races found is coming from cause #2 above.

To paraphrase from the Data Window Exports Help Doc:

Running Data Window Exports

Running a Data Window Export is a two step process:

STEP ONE
Activate the Export first by clicking MENU and toggling the Export ON.

STEP TWO
Run a Data Window query using the ALL or UDM buttons.

-------------------------------------------------

STEP ONE
To Activate a Data Window Export:

Click MENU.
Select the Export that you want to run.

Look at the title bar running across the top of the Data Window. When an export has been activated you will see text describing the type of Export that you are about to run.

After you have Activated an Export as described above:

STEP TWO
Run a Data Window query using the ALL or UDM buttons.

The Data Window will run your export while it runs your query. Once the query has finished and you see results displayed in the Data Window’s textbox your Export is complete. Export data is now sitting in the export table.

From here (once data is sitting in the export table) bring up the Report Generator and run a report.

-------------------------------------------

If what I've posted still doesn't help then give me a call and I'll talk you through it. Once you see it done it becomes really easy.

I came up with zero races at first. Change the number of days to an actual number like 180, 120 or whatever. I'm at work so I don't remember if the alternative was "All" or "N/A" but choose an actual number of days instead and it worked for me.

I'm in the process right now of adding 360 and 999 days as valid days back options to the date restriction drop down.

When the report generator first loads the default date restriction selection is set to *NONE. I'm changing that to 999 days and it will be in the next program version ASAP.

If you try to run a report with *NONE as your selection you get 0 races. And I'm guessing that's what you're seeing seeing Rich. Try changing from *NONE to a hard number and I'll bet you can run a report.

The latest program version includes a revised (closer to being finished) Track Profile Report Generator. I've added the following features:

1. The track drop down is sorted by track code at start up time.

2. There is now an *ALL option in the track drop down.

3. I've added 999 and 360 Day options to the Date Restriction drop down.

4. I've added an option labeled "Pick Date From Calendar" to the Date Restriction drop down. When selected, this option will bring up a Calendar Control. On the Calendar Control you can click < to go back one month or > to go forward one month. To select a start date simply click a date on the calendar and hit the Apply button. To select an end date, again, just click a date on the calendar and hit the Apply button.

In addition to any of the days back options on the Date Restriction drop down, dates selected using the Calendar Control will now drive date restrictions for Track Profile Reports that you generate.

Q. Do I have to rebuild databases from scratch after installing this update?

A. No.

Enjoy,

Jeff I play BEL and when I run a report for the turf there is no difference between the Widener Course (T) and the Inner Course (t) when I query either one...they are combined unless I choose exact distances only used by the particular course....I noticed on the drop down menu there is T and t but no T* as you have in the Data Window....Freddie

Jeff I can get the profiles I want by setting the DATA WINDOW to the TRACK,SURF, and DISTANCE....go to MENU...clear the JEFF PROFILE....then run the Window..back to MENU THEN RUN JEFF REPORT GENERATOR....all the factors are not dislayed I then right click choose PRINT PREVIEW ...SET THE SCREEN TO HOW I WANT TO VIEW THE DISPLAY......I remember early on in the program a similar problem came up and I believe this was the cure....Freddie
