To operate in SQL Mode:

• On the face of the Main Module, click System Settings. On the System Settings Interface, click System Definitions. In the User Sys Defs Screen, check the Operate JCapper in SQL Mode Box located in the upper right hand area of the screen and hit SAVE.

From this point forward Calc Races routines that you run will happen in SQL Mode. (To toggle back to playlist/text file mode uncheck the box and save your settings.)

• You'll want some SQL UDMs and need to create a few using the UDM Wizard.

A few things to keep in mind when creating SQL UDMs.

A UDM can be either a SQL UDM or it can be a PlaylistFile UDM. It cannot be both. Once you add a sql expression to a UDM that UDM becomes a SQL UDM and will only "fire" when a sql calc races is run. UDMs that do not have a sql expression as part of the UDM Definition are playlist file UDMs and will only "fire" when a playlist file Calc Races is run.

To add a sql expression to a UDM and make it a SQL UDM:

Find the SQL button located in the bottom center screen area on the UDM Wizard's Modify UDM Screen and give it a click. This will launch the UDM Wizard's SQL Expression Tool. From here, use the SQL Expression Tool's interface to persist a SQL Expression to the UDM Definition. (As soon as you save the sql expression to the UDM Definition, that UDM becomes a SQL UDM. As soon as you remove the sql expression from the UDM Definition, the UDM reverts back to a playlistFile UDM.)

Avoid using odds and/or results based factors as part of the UDM Definition as the odds and results are not known inside of the Profile Marker when the Calc Races button is clicked on race day.

Factors such as ODDS, BETTORSTOTEPROB, EBETTORSTOTEPROB, OR3, JPRTOTEPROB, etc are fine during Data Window research, but avoid using them in your final UDM Definitions for active UDMs that you want to "fire" when you click the Calc Races button on race day.

Those are the basics. The rest is best picked up through time spent working hands on with the program.

Hint: After clicking the above link, scoll down a little and watch the video labeled as VIDEO #3 - SQL UDMs. It shows me using the Data Window and UDM Wizard to create a SQL UDM.
