I Googled the phrase "end-of-central-dirctory signature not found, either this file is not a zip" and did some reading.

There are lots of posted instances on the web where others have gotten the same error message while trying to open a .zip file.

The most common theme among the cases I read about: The zip file was damaged during the download/transmission process.

For this, try navigating to the folder where you are saving downloaded files to. Then sort the .zip files on that folder by date modified and manually delete the .zip files most recently downloaded. From there, try re-downloading. If you are able to process them this time it means that one or more of them was corrupted during transmission the first time.

The second most common theme associated with the error message (and it may not be what you want to hear) relates to the area on the hard drive where .zip files were saved to had become unstable - making it impossible for Windows to read files saved on that part of the hard drive.

For this: Try running a Defrag followed by deleting recently downloaded zip files and re-downloading them.

Let me know...

First best guess (but still a guess) as to what happened:

The area on your hard drive where unreadable files had been downloaded to had deteriorated and/or contained bad sectors - Files stored on those bad sectors were rendered unusable.

I'm guessing that running a Defrag probably did have a positive effect - even if all it did was cause the operating system to identify and cordon off bad sectors on the hard drive. I'd also guess that the Defrag couldn't (by itself) actually repair damaged files that had been saved to an area on the hard drive containing bad sectors.

The act of reinstalling the program caused files from that install package to be written to a more stable area of the hard drive.

Redownloaded data and results files from HDW were likewise saved to a more stable area of the hard drive.

Again, the above is just an educated guess (and I use that term loosely) on my part.

This type of thing can be tricky to solve. Glad you were able to get things back to normal.

I'm having the same issue and unable to resolve. I deleted and re downloaded HDW files. I also re-installed J-CAPPER. The issue started happening when I installed on new machine with Windows 8. When I download from HDW, it asks for my password twice, even though I have 'remember password' checked, which is odd.

Any ideas how to unzip/load files?

Thanks.

I was able to download/load from HDW site successfully. This is really strange. I had the same issue before with the results files.

One possible cause that I've seen a handful of users run into in the past (and please understand that I have no way of knowing if in fact the same thing is happening on your machine) is a firewall "altering" downloaded zip files so as to render them unusable.

In the handful of cases I am aware of where this was happening - whitelisting the HDW file download site solved the problem.

Can't download JCapper files again!

I just updated to Java 7.51 and when I try to download from the HDWDATA site I get an error:

"This application will be blocked in a future Java security update because the JAR file manifest does not contain the Permissions attribute. Please contact the Publisher for more information. More Information."

I click run, but nothing happens. Tried re-installing, no luck. I can't even find a way to go back to old version.

Any suggestions on how to download using a WIN8 machine?

Thanks

Q. Are you attempting to use an open web browser window to visit the HDW site? - And from there the Java "download cart" built into the HDW site?

If so, my thinking is the easiest immediate path to downloading files from the HDW site would be to simply use the Download Tool built into JCapper's HDW File Mgr.

Hint: No Java involved.

That said, I Googled the error message you posted "This application will be blocked in a future Java security update because the JAR file manifest does not contain the Permissions attribute" and came up with the following links that may be of help:
