I am wondering if anybody can offer advice on tie breakers. I have run into some races lately where I have up to 3 horses that look very good on my HTML report and are all a price.

I find myself perplexed to then find a Jcapper factor that I can reliably rely on to break the "tie" between which horse to bet.

Anybody solved this conundrum using certain factors?

Not to turn this into a commercial for a new JCapper module that I've been working on, but...

Q. Do you keep records?

If so, you should be able to check them to see what has happened in past races given pretty much any situation - including those where 2 or more UDM horses existed.

In my own case, I almost never attempt to break a tie. Each horse that I consider backing has a min strike price attached to it. If the odds are high enough to create value, that horse gets bet. If not, that horse gets passed. It's what my records tell me to do. Simple as that.

I can't say if it will work for you, but this was a turning point for me about three years ago.

When I have more than one horse that qualifies, I play them all to win.

There are some heartbreaking times, but in the long run it proved to be very profitable to me as I get on some very long odd horses from time to time.

Naturally the long odd horses tend to look the worse on paper and most tie breaking methods would pass on it. You know the rest of the story.

If long term records show it to be profitable, then use the shotgun.

When I'm wagering on overlays off the HTML report (mostly on weekends if few UDMs are available for play), I find the form factors to be the most useful tie-breakers. I have a much tweaked userfactor for form and pay attention to the value, ie 90-99 being most preferred, below 75 a toss. Class is next best, JPRClass especially. I also have an abundance of positive and negative factors to use as a guide.
