A question from a relatively new user of JCapper Platinium.

With extensive study I have created a promising UDM which identifies a horse for Win wagering. Now I would like to search for profitable exotic plays with this UDM play on top and various other horses underneath.

As a very simple example, I might find that there are profitable exactas with my UDM "Win" horse on top of the the top three ranked JPR horses (including the combination where the UDM is one of the top 3), or the UDM "Win" horse on top of the top 4 Q-Rated horses (again excluding the combination where the key UDM "Win" horse is one of the top 4 Q-Rated horses). The underneath criteria could include multiple factors thus making them as complex as any UDM definition for a "Win" horse.

While no where near an expert, I have worked with Excel, and a little bit with Access. I suspect one possible way for study would be to Import a file into one of these programs, but I have no idea how to create the Export file in JCapper.

Any ideas and/or suggestions on how to begin this study? (Please be specific and detailed with any instructions, as I can be kind of slow at times.). :)

Thanks for any help!

Two possible avenues for creating a source that can be imported into either Excel or Access:

1. Comma delimited text files.

2. StarterHistory Table

First, comma delimited text files:

1. Filename: pl_profile.txt
Description: This comma delimited text file is updated on the target folder each time you run a build database routine on that folder.

2. Quick Index files - filename supplied by the user each time a file is created. Quick Index files are created by the user from inside the Data Window while running it in playlist file mode: Point the Data Window at a target folder, click MENU, click Exports, and click Quick Index File Create New. Key the desired filename into the dialog box and click open. This toggles the export "on."

With the export toggled "on" run a Data Window query on the target folder. Data for all starters returned by the query are written to the quick index text file.

Considerations:

a. Both the pl_profile.txt file and quick index files contain the
complete JCapper data export.

b. Both the pl_profile.txt file and quick index files contain more than the 255 fields per record allowed by Access and Excel 2003. However, both files types can be imported into newer versions of Excel.

c. Quick Index files can be useful to you if you want your analysis to be limited to starters where certain attributes are already known. For example, after toggling an export "on" you can use a UDM to drive the next Data Window query - causing the Data Window to create a quick index file that contains only those starters flagged by the UDM.

d. The current file format for quick index files is identical to the that of the pl_profile.txt file. A current map of the file's data fields is published towards the bottom of a sticky thread in the private area of this message board.

Next, the StarterHistory Table:

This is an access table inside the c:\JCapper\Exe\JCapper2.mdb file.

The table is updated each time a build database routine is run in modes 3, 4, or 5.

Alternately, the table can be updated via Data Window Export while running the Data Window in playlist file mode:

Point the Data Window at a target folder, click MENU, click Exports, and click StarterHistory Table Export (use either Clear First or Append depending on what you are trying to do.) This toggles the export "on."

With the export toggled "on" run a Data Window query on the target folder. Data for all starters returned by the next query run will be written to the table.

From there, data from the table can be exported to another access file, a 3rd party database, or an app like Excel.

The table format is published in the Table Schema doc at this link:
