HDW speed numbers change in pp's? |
Windoor 7/24/2011 7:40:55 PM | Do the HDW previous speed numbers change after the horse has run again?
That Is. When I ran some tests and took a closer look at a contender, I noticed the speed numbers were not the same on previous run races for this months PP's . They show a different set of numbers that last months pp's.
These numbers are very important to my form cycle test. When the horse gets a rating for a particular race, I would expect it to remain the same in the past performances.
Confused.

jeff 7/25/2011 12:46:01 PM | Q. Do the HDW previous speed numbers change after the horse has run again?
From Ron Tiller at HDW:
Yes, they do. Lightly raced horses will change more, as they had fewer races with which to project a variant going into the race.

Windoor 7/25/2011 7:09:24 PM | Thanks for the quick reply.
I think I am very sorry to hear that.
I'll need to run some comparison tests and see if it going to have an impact or not. Maybe not, but a $40 horse in June that I did not play, looks like a strong play in July's PP"s.
After the fact, but maybe that's what the change in number is trying to reflect.

tanix 7/25/2011 9:45:36 PM | I really want to hear more about this. If speed numbers change after the fact, how can we possibly rely on our research?

Windoor 7/25/2011 10:10:37 PM | That was my first though too, but the more I think about it, I don't think it will impact any who use the filters supplied with J/CApper.
I have an Excel program that use the HDW data files to run form cycle tests that rely heavily on the speed numbers from the last six starts.
This may very well make a big difference to me.
I will be making some side by side tests with HDW, Bris and Beyer numbers soon to see if there is a difference worth noting.
I'll report back here on what I find. May take a while.
