What does the red font to display a saddle cloth number in the race summary mean?

Actually, you stumped me on this. (I had to look it up.)

Bolding and Overlay Highlighting of Saddle Cloth Numbers on the Race Summary
The algorithm that generates the saddle cloth numbers for the race summary displayed beneath each race on the html report can also be made to apply Overlay Highlighting to those saddle cloth numbers. This is partially driven by user defined settings persisted on the User System Definitions Screen and partially driven by gap cutoffs written into the algorithm itself.

First, there are 6 general areas (or schools of handicapping thought) represented by the saddle cloth numbers in the race summary. They are:

1. Early
2. Late
3. Figs
4. Class
5. Form
6. Power

When generating the saddle cloth numbers, the first thing the algorithm does is to rank all starters in the field by their consensus factor values within each general area. For example, EarlyConsensus is the consensus factor used when ranking the field so that saddle cloth numbers of the best early horses can be inserted into the Early category. (LateConsensus is used for Late, FigConsensus is used for Figs, etc.)

Gap Bolding
The next step performed by the algorithm is to apply the gap cutoffs written into the algorithm and apply bolding to the saddle cloth number of any horse within that category with an advantage of X number of points over the second best horse for the consensus factor used within that category. Each category (Early, Late, Figs, Class, Form, and Power) have their own unique gap cutoffs based on R&D that I did spanning calendar years 2007-2008. I’ve revisited that work since and saw no reason to adjust the cutoffs used. (The actual gap cutoff numbers are proprietary and I’d prefer to keep it that way.)

What you need to know: If the saddle cloth number for a horse is bolded in the Race Summary, it has a significant advantage over the other horses in the race for that category.

Overlay Highlighting
The algorithm that generates the saddle cloth numbers also applies overlay highlighting to horses that are bolded because they have the requisite gap advantage over their fields. The cutoffs enforced and colors used for overlay highlighting of bolded saddle cloth numbers on the Race Summary are driven by the user defined settings for level 1 and level 2 Overlay Highlighting as persisted on the User System Definitions Screen – with one further kicker: Overlay Highlighting of bolded saddle cloth numbers takes place if and only if the morning line odds for that horse are at least 4-1.

If a horse on the race summary has a saddle cloth number that is bolded and highlighted, then that horse:

1. Has a significant advantage over its field in that category.

2. Has MLOR3 high enough to qualify for Overlay Highlighting based on your settings as persisted on the User System Definitions Screen.

3. And is 4/1 or higher in the morning line.
