Question on UDM Plays Report |
NYMike 3/15/2013 11:43:58 AM | When I print the UDM Plays report it does not print the markup colors on the UDM. I can not tell if I can change a setting or if it is my printer. The printer does everything else such as the HTML reports just fine.
Also, is there any way to hide plays so that you print only those you are serious about.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mike

TomV 3/15/2013 9:17:07 PM | Hi,
When the Calculate races is run a plays.csv file is created in the active data folder (where the race card files are located)
Suggest to open that file with Microsoft Excel or some other program that can open a csv file and you will see all the UDM plays listed.
Edit that file as needed and then print out the PRIME UDM plays for the day.
Hope that helps.

• Those dlls are updated every time you install a newer version of Internet Explorer or an Internet Explorer security update on your machine.
• Behavior produced by those dlls is controlled by the settings that you check/persist in Internet Explorer.
• FYI - There is a setting in Internet Explorer that controls printing of background colors.
Checking this setting and persisting it as checked will enable you to send background colors as they appear on the SQL UDM Plays Report Module's report to your printer.
Here's a link to a simple web tutorial for changing that setting: http://www.livezilla.net/faq/en/?fid=report-print-background-colors-and-images
EDIT: FYI, the file name and path for the SQL UDM Plays Module report is as follows:
c:\JCapper\Exe\UDMPlays.html
Double clicking the file will cause it to open in your default web browser. Right clicking the file and selecting OPEN WITH will enable you to open the file in any web browser installed on your machine... IE, Firefox, Chrome, etc.
I mention this last part because each browser has its own settings/methods that control printing of background colors.
I have a shareware program named DoPDF (version 7) installed on one of my machines. With any of JCapper's html report files open in the JCapper module designed to render the report... HTML Report Viewer, PPS Generator, SQL UDM Plays Report, etc... or with the same report open in a web browser: If I right click anywhere inside the report itself and select PRINT - one of my print options (in addition to my Cannon printer) is the DoPDF program itself. If I select DoPDF as my printer, the DoPDF program renders the JCapper html report as a PDF - complete with background colors.
My point in mentioning this? If you can't print background colors in IE... you MAY be able to print background colors using a different browser or app.

jeff 3/16/2013 11:15:16 AM | You asked:
"Also, is there any way to hide plays so that you print only those you are serious about?"
My reply:
Yes. In the UDM Wizard, on the Modify UDM Screen, just to the right of the Active box - there is a check box labeled "Hide From Text Report."
This box gives you explicit control over whether or not horses flagged by a UDM are displayed on both the standard Text Report and the report in the SQL UDM Plays Report Module.
To hide horses flagged by a given UDM from those reports: Bring up the UDM in the UDM Wizard Modify UDM Screen, check the box, and hit the Save button. The next time you run a Calc Races, your new setting is enforced.
To display horses flagged by a given UDM on those reports: Bring up the UDM in the UDM Wizard Modify UDM Screen, uncheck the box, and hit the Save button. The next time you run a Calc Races, your new setting is enforced.

Another possibility for not being able to print background colors directly from the HTML Report Viewer might be your firewall/antivirus.
One of my Machines had McAfee installed on it.
I uninstalled it from the machine because it was interfering with rendering of javascript on JCapper html reports - but apparently traces of it remain. (I keep meaning to remove ALL traces of it from the machine but haven't gotten around to it yet.)
On that machine, McAfee had "cordoned" off or disabled some of the internet enabled aspects of JCapper.
In reading everything I could find on the web about how and why MCAfee does this - I have come to the following conclusion:
McAfee sees a short list of JCapper modules as threats because they use some of the same dlls found in Internet Exporer.
The modules involved are:
The JCapper Main Module.
The HTML Report Viewer.
The PPs Generator.
The SQL UDM Report Module.
The Live Play Module.
On the machine that had McAfee on it - If I launch the HTML Report Viewer, the PPs Generator, The SQL UDM Report Module, or the Live Play Module directly from the JCapper Main Module, much to my dismay - and no matter what settings I persist in Internet Explorer... McAfee prevents the dlls in Internet Explorer from rendering javascript on the html reports displayed in those modules.
The result is that the clickable elements in those html reports are disabled... meaning they are no longer clickable.
Also, when those reports are sent to a printer directly from a JCapper module which has been launched from the JCapper Main Module: printing of background colors for those modules is also disabled.
However...
This is NOT the case on my other machines (that do not have McAfee on them.)
And this is NOT the case on the machine mentioned above that still has traces MacAfee on it WHEN I launch the individual JCapper module by navigating to the JCapper/Exe folder and double click the exe file for the individual JCapper module.
And this is NOT the case if I take the time to create a desktop shortcut for the sole purpose of launching the individual JCapper module.
Work Around If you suspect that your firewall/antivirus is at fault...
Path info for JCapper modules that use Internet Explorer dlls to render html reports:
HTML Report Viewer c:\JCapper\Exe\HTML_Report_Viewer.exe
SQL UDM Report Module c:\JCapper\Exe\UDMReports.exe
PPs Generator c:\JCapper\Exe\PastPerformanceGenerator.exe
Live Play Module (Platinum Only) c:\JCapper\Exe\LivePlay.exe
On my the machine that still has traces of McAfee on it - I can bypass what MacAfee has done to my machine by navigating to the c:\JCapper\Exe folder and launching the individual JCapper module by double clicking its .exe file.
I can also do the same thing by creating a desktop shortcut for the sole purpose of launching the individual JCapper module.

NYMike 3/17/2013 5:48:50 PM | Jeff, Tom, Thanks for your help. I was able to change the setting in IE to do that. I have been using Firefox for so long I couldn't figure it out.
I got the message on the UDM's which I understand but what if a UDM picks up 5 plays for the day but I only like 2 of them. I want to keep the UDM active but on my UDM plays report I only want to show the 2 I want to focus on.
Thanks, Mike

jeff 3/18/2013 12:15:54 AM | So the question becomes... What makes the 2 you want to focus on different from the others? (And can you write that into the UDM definition?)

NYMike 3/18/2013 9:09:01 AM | Jeff, That makes sense but I will use a work around for now. I guess by pasting them in Word and deleting what I don't want each day.
Your suggestion makes perfect sense but I am too new in the cockpit of this thing to trust my ability to filter my thoughts well enough in the UDM definitions. I have them loose and then still look at the past performances. I'm doing less and less but sometimes I need to see it as Bruce Pandolfini would say. As I gain trust in myself as I see things I repeatedly like or dislike I am honing the UDM but I do not want to go too tight too fast. I'm good.
Thanks,
Mike
