What is pf1 and pf2 ? |
kingfish 1/15/2012 12:56:41 AM | Was reading one of the jcapper articles it mentioned pf1 and pf2. What exactly is pf1 and pf2? I know it means prime failure scores 1 and 2. Also what factors contain these two factors?
One last question currently my paceline setting is set to last 90 days regardless of surface or distance. I use to weed out bad favorites. But also interested in using logical fig without changing my paceline settings. Is their a way to get logical fig without changing paceline settings? I see logical fig in the top section of the data window and also when i populate my upr with key factors report. Can i use translate behavior 3 to get logical fig?

A. Pf1 and pf2 are two factors that I developed as a result of some R&D I did back in 2000 or so. At the time I was trying to better understand Brisnet Prime Power... where it was good/where it was bad, etc.
Looking back now, I remember being impressed by the 31% win rate for the top ranked prime power horse... as well as thinking how cool it would be if I could develop a power rating of my own to rival that performance. (Keep in mind that back then JCapper didn't yet exist and my early databases included a handful of factors only.)
Not knowing (at the time) what the makeup of Prime Power was, my R&D centered around ranking fields of horses in terms of speed and pace figs, wobrill, etc. and running queries that enabled me to analyze win rate and roi for the top prime power horses with the data broken out by the the various speed and pace fig, workout, etc. factors I was using to gauge prime power with.
Doing this enabled me to identify factors that seemed to be included in the Prime Power algorithm - as well factors that prime power didn't seem to account for.
From this I was able to develop pf1 and pf2... which are nothing more than two factors that enable the player to "score" the top ranked prime power horse in each race.
Keep in mind that Prime Power is a proprietary Brisnet number inserted into Brisnet data files by Brisnet.
Also keep in mind that if you are using HDW files, the number that you see labeled as Prime Power on your reports and in the Data Window is an HDW factor inserted into HDW files by HDW called PSR (Projected Speed Figure) developed by Jim Cramer.
In my opnion, PSR is a better factor than Prime Power. Both factors have a similar win rate. But PSR has a slightly higher flat win bet roi - IMHO because HDW data is seen by fewer pairs of eyes each day than Brisnet data.
Pf1 and Pf2 can be used in UDMs to a limited degree in playlist file mode via preset filters.
Hint: All of the preset filters for pf1 and pf2 begin with the characters "PF" (without the quotes.)
Q. Can pf1 and pf2 be translated in UPR Tools to create UserFactors?
A. Currently, no. However, I am willing to revisit that (older) part of the internal workings of the program... If it looks like adding the ability to translate pf1 and pf2 so that a user can replicate pf1 and/or pf2 as a UserFactor without having to burn too many programming hours... I'd be willing. Not promising a time frame here - only that I'll look at it.

A. Yes. In JCapper Platinum, LogicalFig can be "grabbed" from the factors drop down in the ImpactValues Table Wizard/UPR Tools Interface and be given a 3 Translate behavior - enabling you to replicate it as a UserFactor.
