Data Integrity Files for Sunday 05-03-2026 |
jeff 5/4/2026 4:29:25 PM | Subtitle Data Fires the Morning after the Derby
1. On Saturday 5/2/2026 I downloaded 14 Data Files for today Sun 5/3/2026.
This included 2 files for tracks that aren't running/were never scheduled to run today: CD0503.J.ZIP TDN0503J.ZIP
Much like I do every morning, after running a DBBuild on my current active data folder in Mode 5, not realizing these were bad files, I loaded all 5/3/2026 .JCP files into the program.
When I brought up the TrackWeather Module and tried to get Weather History for today's date 5/3/2026 - I got a warning message telling me one or more loaded .JCP files have different (internal) race dates.
Loading one .JCP file at at time and running a Get Weather History Routine on each - I discovered through process of elimination there were three bad race cards.
The two mentioned above: CDX0503.JCP TDN0503.JCP
And: GPX0503.JCP
It took me a bit to figure out what was going on.
Looking inside, I noticed the following:
CDX0503.JCP and TDN0503JCP had race dates of 5/3/2025 for every race in Field #2.
GPX0503.JCP (which is running today) had 5/3/2025 in field #2 for races 10 and 11 only.
2. I reached out to HDW.
They had already pulled the CD0503.J.ZIP and TDN0503J.ZIP data files from their download server.
But as of about 90 minutes ago the GP0503J.ZIP file on the HDW download server still had 5/3/2025 as the race date for races 10 and 11.
3. I loaded the full source for the HDW File Mgr into my VB6 Dev Environment.
From there I wrote a patch into the routine that creates the first few fields of race data that gets inserted into .JCP Files:
For race date 5/3/2025, track code GPX, and races 10 or 11 only:
The race date is coerced from 5/3/2025 to 5/3/2026.
From there, 5/3/2026 is inserted into the .JCP File instead of 5/3/2025.
4. I did the following:
• Deleted all 5/3/2026 files from my current active data folder (J.ZIP Files and .JCP Files.)
• Re-Downloaded all 5/3/2026 J.ZIP Files.
• Brought up the the newly revised HDW File Mgr- and ran a .JCP File Build start date 5/3/2026 to end date 5/3/2026 (or rebuilt today's .JCP files.)
• Brought up the DFM Card Loader, cleared all .JCP Files, and then reloaded today's (rebuilt) 5/3/2026 .JCP Files.
• Brought up the TrackWeather Module - and then ran a Get Weather History (which ran to completion just fine.)
• Brought up the TrackWeather API. Ran a Precip Report for today 5/3/2026 - followed by getting weather data for today's races by clicking the BOT Mode button.
• Brought up and ran Scratch BOT in Bot Mode.
• Ran a Calc Races.
So far, other than I missed several winning plays - everything checks out.
Sometime this coming week I WILL be publishing a new FULL Program Update.
Among other things the new program version will include the newly revised HDW File Mgr with the patch described above.
For benefit of those running JCapper Silver or an older version of JCapper Platinum b198:
Here's a link to a newly minted GPX0503.JCP File that contains corrected race date data in Field #2 as described above: http://www.JCapper.com/MessageBoard/Reports/GPX0503.JCP
Install Instructions:
Save it to your current active data folder overwriting the known bad (existing) GPX0503.JCP file.

| jeff 5/4/2026 4:33:48 PM | Quick Update - Three Parts
Part One This morning while loading .JCP Files in the DFM Cardloader I saw a LRL0504.JCP file.
My immediate reaction? "So Laurel is running a Monday card? Hmm."
Of course LRL isn't running a card today.
Looking inside the file I could clearly see all of the racedates in field #2 had 2025 as the year.
To quote Yogi Berra: "It's déjà vu all over again."
I reached out to HDW and confirmed they had pulled the file from the download server sometime yesterday afternoon.
Looking at the date modified attribute of the LRL0504J.ZIP file I could see I'd downloaded the file yesterday morning.
I promptly deleted the files: LRL0504J.ZIP LRL0504.JCP
You should do the same.
Part Two HDW put a revised GP0503J.ZIP file up on the download server.
The revised file contains binary race files for races 1 through 9. They removed races 10 and 11 which are from last year 2025.
All of this stems from not running a process that clears out archived binary race files at the start of each new year.
Apparently, this is something Ron Tiller knew to do manually.
Fail to do it, and if a track runs a card on the same month and day of month the following year:
And if the card from the previous year had fewer races than the card the same month and day of month this year:
The previous year binary race files with the same filenames (which include a race number) as the current year binary race files:
• Those files get overwritten with current year binary race files.
• But, the previous year binary race files with higher numbered races remain.
• And these remaining files are automatically inserted into the current year J.ZIP files by the routine that makes files.
• And J.ZIP files fitting the above description end up on the download server (and from there on our hard drives.)
Again, this is something Ron knew to do manually.
None of the new guys had any idea beforehand.
Imo, everyone at HDW has a VERY good understanding about this now.
Part Three Did I mention HDW put a revised GPX0503J.ZIP file up on the download server?
It contains binary race files for races 1-9 (but not races 10-11 which are from last year.)
You should download and process the revised GPX0503J.ZIP file ASAP.
