JCapper is a handicapping software package that will:
Build a database using your own Bris or TSN data and results files as the source.
Let the non-programming horseplayer perform his or her own research by running queries against that database.
Give the non-programming horseplayer a powerful set of unique numbers and factors that can be found nowhere else.
Let the non-programming horseplayer create and edit User Defined Models as spot plays.
Let the non-programming horseplayer create a custom power rating or UPR.
Let the non-programming horseplayer download scratches and races taken off the turf right from the internet.
Analyze today's loaded past performance files at the click of a button. JCapper will very quickly point out those horses that qualify as potential spot
plays based on the User Defined Model Definitions created by the individual player.
Provide a proven documented approach that enables the beginning player who is willing to work and employ self discipline the ability to find a true mathematical edge.
Why JCapper?
JCapper is different from all other handicapping software. Without any hype, here's why:
- Create and store your own spot play definitions. In JCapper each spot play is called a User Defined Model or UDM.
On race day JCapper evaluates every horse running against the stored rules for each of your active UDMs. Horses that
qualify as plays are clearly marked on the reports so that you can see them and put your focus where it needs to be: on your UDM horses.
This one aspect will bring discipline to your game... and in my experience discipline is the single most common trait
separating the tiny percentage of winning players from the masses of losing players... Winning players have it... and losing
players don't.
- Create a database using your existing Bris or TSN files as the source. Use JCapper's Data Window to run queries against your database.
Discover what works and what doesn't work. JCapper puts true database capability in the hands of the non programmer.
Perform your own research. Run your UDMs through the Data Window. Evaluate their performance. Edit your UDMs in the UDM Wizard.
Re-run your UDMs through the Data Window and get almost instant feedback as you enhance their performance.
Use JCapper long enough and you will become a student of the game.
- JCapper offers a powerful array of insightful numbers and handicapping factors.
Many of these factors are unique and can be found nowhere else. A true edge can
be obtained over the crowd using these numbers. It will take some work on your
part. JCapper provides the tools. I explain how in the Help Docs and Podcasts. The rest is up to you.
If you are willing to work it can be done.
Without a unique set of numbers you stand very little chance of ever gaining a true edge in pari-mutuel race betting.
For a glossary of all the factors supported within JCapper click
here.
- Use the IVTable Wizard to utilize JCapper's factor set like building blocks. Create your own User Defined Power Rating or UPR.
Tailor your UPR to reflect the way you handicap. Decide which factors go into it. Weight your factors accordingly. Accentuate
horses with hidden positives and de-weight for areas the public over-reacts to. Make your UPR track, distance, and surface specific.
Use the Data Window to query your database by UPR rank, numeric value, and gap. Use UPR as a factor in your own UDMs.
- This one Help Doc will open your eyes. It is the culmination of all other JCapper Help Docs and Podcasts.
It explains in plain English how to use JCapper to find a proven mathematical edge. The concepts of hidden and obvious positives
are introduced. After reading it you will understand why they are critical for success in pari-mutuel race betting. A step by
step detailed example is presented that gives the beginning (and advanced) player a proven documented successful UDM.
- JCapper provides three separate modules for handling scratches and changes. Scratch Bot is internet enabled. Download
scratches and races taken off the turf in real time. Scratch Parser is internet enabled. Download early scratches directly
from BRIS. Manual Changes Module is a simple manual interface where you can scratch horses and make surface/distance changes.
Yes, scratches and changes can be frustrating... but JCapper lets you handle them as pain free as possible.
Hi. My name is Jeff Platt. I'm an independent software developer. That means I design, test, and create software
for a living. I have been doing this since 1987. I have done web enabled projects for Fortune 500 companies like American Express,
Verizon Wireless, STMicroelectronics, Trammell-Crowe, and others. I have done work for small clients too. I got my start in programming
by designing and coding an accounting information system for a group that owned car dealerships. I mention my programming backround as
a way of letting you know that when it comes to software and databases I might know a thing or two about what I'm doing.
JCapper... A Work In Progress...
I have authored, or more correctly, still am authoring, a handicapping program called JCapper. I say still authoring
because JCapper truly is a work in progress. The list of factors and filters is always growing. I'm always thinking about
new handicapping ideas. I'm constantly asking myself questions like "What if?" and "How can I improve on that?" I love testing out
new ideas. Whenever a new factor or idea proves successful in my testing, I make that new factor or idea part of JCapper. Users who
signed up for JCapper very early on will tell you one thing. The current version of JCapper is light years ahead of the original.
And I will tell you one thing too. Because of the way I'm wired, I don't think the day is coming anytime soon when I'll be ready to
lean back, fold my arms, and say "Ok. That's it. I'm finally finished creating JCapper."
Research...
Horses are my lifetime hobby. Computer study of handicapping factors is one aspect of that hobby that I absolutely love to do.
You'll find numbers in JCapper that are available nowhere else. JPR, UPR, AFR, CFA, CPace, PMI, CMI, Optimization Points, Form,
Workout Brilliance, PScore, Race Volatility, Assigned Probability... these and the many many other factors you'll find in JCapper
are all the direct result of the tens of thousands of man hours I have devoted to handicapping
research over the years. These numbers all exist in JCapper for one simple reason: Computer
studies using large databases tell me that each of these numbers has true statistical significance
in terms of both win rate and roi. For every one factor or idea currently found in the program there are hundreds more
that fell apart during testing and had to be discarded. This should help you realize something. There's some pretty cutting edge stuff in
JCapper. Part of that is putting a unique and relevant set of handicapping factors in your hands that can be found nowhere else.
Database...
JCapper makes it easy for a user with no understanding of programming whatsoever to create a database and run queries against that database.
As a JCapper user you'll have the ability to do your own research. You'll be able to uncover track biases. You'll be able create profiles
for the moves individual trainers use to get their horses ready to win. You'll be able to create profiles for the offspring of individual sires.
You'll be able to see what factors the public overbets. Even more important, you'll be able to see which factors the public consistently underbets.
You'll also be able to see the true impact that individual factors have had (including combinations of factors that you select) on large
numbers of selected races. The simple truth is that if you're willing to do the work, you'll have the tools at your disposal to become very
knowledgeable in any area of handicapping that interests you. Use JCapper long enough, and ultimately you will become a student of the game.
User Defined Models (UDMs)...
JCapper is also unique in that you can capture the essence of your own research and store it as a UDM or User Defined Model. In plain English
a UDM is really a fancy name for a Spot Play - in this case a spot play where all the rules for making that spot play are explicitly defined and
stored in a database for future use. You'll be able to edit any of your UDMs any time you want. You'll be able to run each one back through
your database and see how it has been doing. As you make changes to a UDM you can get instant feedback on whether or not the changes you made
either improved or weakened that UDM's overall strength. Once you are satisfied that a UDM is strong enough for live play you
can activate it. Then, on race day, with the click of a button, you can view a report that very clearly shows you what to focus on: those
horses that fit the exact definitions of your UDMs and therefore qualify as the ones you might want to play.
Scratches...
One of the most frustrating things about playing horses each day are scratches and changes. As a JCapper user, you'll be dealing with
scratches quickly and effectively. JCapper gives you three different modules just for this purpose:
Scratch Bot - You'll be able to download Scratches and races taken off the turf in real time right off the web.
All you need is a live internet connection wherever you play.
Scratch Parser - You can also download Scratches directly from the Bris website. This is a great timesaver for
anyone who wants to get an early start on the day's scratches before leaving home for the track or OTB.
Manual Changes Module - For those times when there is no live internet connection when you're playing. You can scratch
horses with a single mouse click and handle races coming off the turf by selecting the new surface and distance from a drop down.
Concise Reports...
Don't be fooled into thinking that handicapping software has to have dozens of different colorful screens and/or graphs.
JCapper is designed to do what it does best: Quickly point you to those horses you need to focus on.
JCapper produces two reports on race day:
HTML Report - laid out in an easy to read format with the following sections:
General Info - Post position, Name of Horse, Assigned Probability and Odds Line. If the horse is a potential UDM play the horse's name is displayed in red
Pace Summary - Early, Overall, and Late Pace synopsis
Form Summary - Form Rating, Workout Brilliance, Speed Figure Improvement or Decline
Learning to read this report can give you a very accurate peek at how the race is likely to unfold. There are successful players who
use this report exclusively. They purposely almost never look at traditional past performances. Their advantage lies in the fact that the
software makes and presents the numbers the same way for every race. A human being looking at traditional past performances is likely to make
calculation errors and be inconsistent from race to race. Also, think about this: Traditional past performances are seen every day by many of
thousands of pairs of eyes. The information presented there is just so over-used. Most players consistently lose when studying traditional past
performances. Ask yourself "Why?" To win consistently you have to do something entirely different than what the betting public is doing. The
information found on the JCapper HTML Report gives even the novice player a fighting chance.
Reading the report - Names of horses selected by active UDMs are displayed in red. The idea isn't to just blindly bet them all.
Players are advised to seek value and wager only when the odds on the tote board exceed the program's AProb OddsLine.
The novice user, not knowing anything more about JCapper than that would have noticed just four horses on this day:
Race/Horse Name
Odds
Play - Pass
Results
R2 #9 PEERLESS TEE
10.40-1
PLAY
WON $22.80
R3 #10 RAYS RULES
7.90-1

R8 #5 EL ZARCO
1.60-1
PASS

R9 #3 WITH DISTINCTION
2.70-1

More experienced users know about JCapper's overlay highlighting feature. An algorithm in the program highlights
those horses where the algorithm says the morning line oddsmaker missed the mark. These horses are often overlooked
by the public. Experienced JCapper users know to give extra attention to these horses. Experienced users also know
to give extra consideration to the top ranked JRating horse in each race. On this day, the top ranked JRating horses
swept the early pick-four. Sure, this is just one example of JCapper having a good day. Results like this don't happen
every day. In fact, JCapper will have it's share of bad days too. But results like this do keep happening often enough that
users excersising a little discipline are enjoying their fair share of success.
Text Report - This report only shows horses that qualify as potential UDM plays for the day. I can't make it
any easier than this. The race, the horse, the ML, and the JCapper Aprob Oddsline in brackets are spelled out for you.

Don't Take My Word For It...
Users send email and written testimonials to me all the time. I'm not much into hype so I don't bother to post them here.
And I'm certainly no salesman. I'll just tell you that JCapper is different. But don't take my word for it. Go back to the
JCapper Message Board
and READ the posts.
You'll quickly figure one thing out. JCapper is
different. Handicappers who have discovered it are quietly using it and having success.

Jeff P
What's New?
Here's a list of the new things you'll find inside of JCapper2007:
A Second Profile Table - This design change means that virtually all factors in the program will eventually be available
in the UDM Wizard. No, not right away - but as I can get to them. Of course those 700+ Preset Filters will still be supported. But
this design change means that eventually you won't need to use them if you don't want to.
Live Play Module - This is a new module that has the following features:
A built in Web Browser (Internet Explorer) that lets you browse live tote odds. When you browse the odds for a race it is
no different than opening up Internet Explorer and clicking on a link to a website where you have a registered account to view
that site. You will need a TSN or Bris account in good standing to use the Live Play Module in live play mode. JCapper uses Bris
and TSN files. You should already have a Bris or TSN account to get your files. Read between the lines.
A simple HTML Report that shows one race at a time. You'll see your own UDMs along with Tote Probability, Odds Line Ratios,
and Overlay Highlighting applied based on your own user settings.
An internal engine that calculates an extremely accurate Tote Prob and Odds Line.
Internal Scratch Parser. Scratched horses are picked up automatically from the live tote page. When a fresh scratch
is found you are presented with a message box and the current race is recalculated and redisplayed almost instantly. No, this is
not the same thing as a Calculate Races routine run by the Main Module. It is a Fast Race Calc where the Tote Prob is redone based
on the remaining horses in the race. My own experience indicates two things: 1. Scratches that happen at the gate do not give the
player enough time to run a Main Module Calc Races (even for a single race) and 2. The Fast Calc in the Live Play Module is close
enough to the real thing that I have no qualms whatsoever about using it in my own live play.
New Compound Factor Set - Here is a list of the new factors introduced with JCapper2007:
AFR - Advanced Form Rating
Alchemy - JPRClass scaled between 0-100 with some additional factor weights thrown in.
CFA - Competitive Figure Ability
Consistency - This is a class rating based on money earned.
JPR - JCapper Power Rating - This is the default power rating shipped with the program.
JPRClass - JPR Class Rating - a raw impact value based power rating initially designed for the turf.
JPRMLProb - JPR Morning Line Probability - a very accurate probability before the odds are known.
JPROfMLFav1 - JPR of the Morning Line Favorite
JPRToteProb - JPR Tote Probability - a very accurate probability once the odds are known.
MLOR3 - Morning Line Odds Ratio 3 - Morning Line divided by JPRML OddsLine.
OR3 - Odds Ratio 3 - Tote Odds divided by JPRTote OddsLine.
PEDRating - The Bris Distance Pedigree Rating.
PRating - A power rating I developed (and kept around) somewhere between Alchemy and JPR.
QRating - A power rating I developed (and kept around) as an improvemt to Bris Prime Power.
UPR - User Defined Power Rating - YOUR job is to create this. I'm just providing the interface.
UPRMLProb - UPR Morning Line Probability - probability before the odds are known based on UPR.
UPRToteProb - UPR Tote Probability - probability as the odds are known based on UPR.
ImpactValues Table Interface - This is a spreadsheet style interface to an Impact Values Table where the user
can enter Impact Values as displayed in the Data Window for dozens (so far) of different factors. The factors can easliy
be weighted according to user preference. Impact Value Table entries can also be selectively applied to different race
types: track code, distance, surface, class descriptor, etc. The whole idea is to allow the user to
create a custom power rating that can be tested in the Data Window, seen on the HTML Report, and used in UDMs. In my own
research I have found that it is possible to tailor a custom power rating to specific surfaces and distances with the end
result being a power rating far more effective in terms of roi than generic one size fits all power ratings such as JRating,
Prime Power, or JPR.

Money Back Guarantee
I offer a 30 day money back guarantee. I want your JCapper ownership experience to be a thoroughly enjoyable one. If you are not
happy with me, I don't want your money. It's just not worth it to me. I say this for several reasons. First, I'm not a big fish. I
can't afford to pay out big dollars to advertise JCapper. My marketing plan is a simple one. I rely on word of mouth. Therefore,
my own reputation is really all a prospective customer has to go on. Research has shown that a satisfied customer will tell two
friends about a product or service that they are happy with. A dissatisfied customer tells ten friends. Think about that one for a moment.
For that reason, I back JCapper with a 30 day no questions asked 100 percent money back guarantee. Simply ask for a refund
within 30 days of purchase (the postmark date on the envelope used to mail your check) and I will refund 100 percent of your
purchase price- no questions asked. It's as simple as that.
Password System/How it Works:
On your date of purchase, initial password entry sets the program expiration date for the first 35 days of ownership.
The first 30 days of ownership is also the 30 day money back guarantee period. You may obtain a full refund during this time period simply by asking me for your money back.
After the 30 day money back guarantee period has been satisfied, I will send you a download link to an Activation File. After you download and open the Activation File, your Registered Program Copy will no longer have an expiration date.
Further Notes on passwords-
Notice the initial password gets you 35 days. Notice the money back guarantee period is 30 days. There is an overlap period. This should allow for things like email service being down, etc.
Personalized UserId and Password If you have a userid and password in mind that you'd like your own JCapper Registered Program Copy to recognize, simply let me know and I will build it right into your own program copy.
